ACA Changes at Midtown
Changes are coming with the goal of improving patient flow and experience — tentatively scheduled for Jan 19th. See the attached documents.
Briefly, in the new process:
- Rooms 49–52 will be physician assessment areas
- Room 48 will be the NP assessment room
- Patients will not be able to remain in those beds to receive treatment (this includes medications, sutures, or casting)
- Once patients are seen, they should be discharged or directed to the treatment waiting area to wait for scripts, medications, or a treatment bed if requiring interventions
We will discuss this at the upcoming department meeting before we start this process.
VQ Scans
Gentle reminder that you need to speak to NM on call if ordering a VQ on a stat holiday (but not required on the weekends).
F&CS
Gentle reminder to call them (they're on call) for urgent concerns in the ER. Cases of suspected abuse fall within this category.
Crisis Team Referrals @ Queens
Gentle reminder that to make a referral to the crisis team from the Queen's site, you can "Refer to Rapid Response" and patients will get a phone call and be booked into a follow-up MH appointment in short order. Patients will be called in the following 1–3 business days.
If your patient is unable to go home due to safety concerns, contact POC or you can speak to the crisis service.
Substance Use Service Team
This happened quite quickly, but wanted the group to know that there is a psychiatrist Dr Bedi who is an addictions psychiatrist that has started a rapid addictions medicine consultation service at the Midtown ER during weekdays as of yesterday.
Danielle (our ER Social Worker) can facilitate consultations, or you can contact Dr Bedi directly.
